‘One of the Most Significant Attempted Fascist Coups In World History’ W/ Gerald Horne

The Katie Halper Show

January 10th 2021

Following a debate on The Katie Halper Show, Dr. Gerald Horne, the Moores professor of history and African American studies at the University of Houston and prolific author and writer, gives his expert advice on how best to discuss and name the events and groups that were a part of the events at the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. Dr. Horne has a deep understanding of precisely how we’ve gotten to this moment in U.S. history, especially as it involves matters of race and class — two particular areas of scholarly focus throughout his career. Dr. Horne looks far back in American history for answers, but also looks at some very recent events: the 2013 shooting death of Miriam Carey, a 34-year-old Black woman, at the hands of the Capitol Police because she made a U-turn at a White House checkpoint; and the recently thwarted plan, concocted by a paramilitary militia group, to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
